Practical, sustainable, and reusable — handmade from retired kite surf canopies on the Australian Surf Coast. Light. Strong. Never the same twice.

Our story

Practical and sustainable.

Inspired by others across the globe “Breeeze of Change”, now operating as “Recycling in the Breeze” was formed from the desire to do more. Alongside my own mission to reduce reliance on soft plastic and throwaway items this venture aims to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill. The main fabric saved is ripstop nylon - commonly found on surf kites and wind wings - either old stock that had perished, or kites no longer safe to fly. By giving them a second life, up-cycling them into reusable items, we keep them in use.

Projects in the past included the use of clothes, tents, paragliding canopies and even a bathroom curtain. In the near-term donated air loungers and gazebo covers will become the source of windsocks and even tougher water resistant overnight bags.

Upcycling

From retired kite to weekend bag.

We give disused fabrics a new lease of life. Follow the journey from a deflated kite to a one-of-a-kind bag — pieced, cut and sewn by hand on the surf coast.

    Rescue

    Worn-out kites are collected from local kitesurfers. Each kite has logged hundreds of hours on the water — the ripstop nylon is incredibly durable and ready for its second life.

    Cut

    The kite surf canopy is inspected for the best panels. Patterns are hand-cut to make the most of every scrap of fabric — nothing goes to waste.

    Sew

    Panels are sewn together on a heavy duty sewing machine using heavy-duty thread. Seams are double-stitched for strength. Handles are reinforced with extra passes — these bags are built to last.

    Carry

    Edges are finished, loose threads trimmed, and every seam checked by hand. Each finished item is unique — no two bags are the same. All designs have been tested for durability prior to their next adventure.
